I. Working Principle of the Satelit Early Streamer Emission Lightning Rod (Pioneer Lightning Rod)

When a thundercloud forms, an electric field (atmospheric) is generated between the cloud and the ground, with a field strength that can reach 5 kV/m. This causes corona discharge to begin on protruding parts or metal components on the ground.

When a downward leader forms within the thundercloud, a lightning strike begins. The downward leader charge moves toward the ground in a step-like manner. The charge carried by the downward leader establishes an electric field on the ground.

An upward leader is generated from buildings or objects on the ground. This upward leader propagates upward until it meets the downward leader. At this point, the lightning current flows through the formed channel. Other buildings on the ground may generate several upward leaders. The first upward leader that meets the downward leader determines the location of the lightning strike.

The working principle of the "Satelit" brand early streamer emission lightning rod (pioneer lightning rod) is to generate an upward leader faster than that of a conventional lightning rod.
